The onion skinned nature of some Filipinos reappears once again to demonstrate how ignorant some people can be. When comedian and former cable TV host Adam Carolla poked fun at Manny Pacquiao and his pathetic bandwagon fans, a mob of ignorant Filipinos quickly formed, and is now on a war path with a foreigner who has allegedly done the country injustice.
If one is familiar with Filipinos and how they gravitate to the overdramatic, this should not come as a surprise. In fact, those cynical enough should expect such an incident to occur at least once yearly. Unlike last year when Chip Tsao came under fire for his literate and understated satire piece, the new “controversy” stirred up by another foreigner is less humorous, more direct, and should be equally harmless to Filipinos who can effectively use critical thinking.
To those that have yet to hear or read about the “controversy”, listen to the full audio or read a small portion of it courtesy of AntiPinoy.com:
He says he doesn’t give blood a week before the fight because it weakens him. I am gonna tell you if that was a white fighter or a black fighter from Atlanta, someone will say “What the Eff are you talking about, just give him your blood”. .. He’s a bloody idiot!
Here’s how you know when your country doesn’t have a lot going for it: When everything is about Manny Pacquiao.”
“Imagine this — what if Ray boom boom Mancini went to the Philippines to fight.. and then all that was all the United States was all about… the Unites States will close down when he would fight,… then when he’d come back here — he’d run for President - then everything will be Boom Boom Mancini mania.”
“Get a fu**in life as a country”
“All you fu**in got is just an illiterate guy who happens to smash other guys in the head better than other people”
“It’s fine to be proud of your countrymen — but that’s it? Get your shit together Philippines — That’s all you got? “
“It pisses me off when other countries just do that whole thing. There’s one guy, he’s 5 foot 6, he’s 147 pounds, and he’s good at punching other guys in the head, and you’re gonna build your entire country around this guy?”
“Really, you want some guy with brain damage running your country? Why don’t you get your sh*t together?”
“What happens when Floyd Mayweather beats him? Does your country go into depression?”
“You don’t build your life around LeBron James or Tiger Woods.”
Give yourself a pat on the back if you recognize some truths about the Philippines coming from that statement.
It is hard to understand how and why so many onion skinned people can find the statement “racist”. Don’t they know what comedians do? Have they been living under a rock to not know what rocking the boat means? Can they refute Carolla’s point about Filipinos pinning their ethnic and national pride on a mere person who happens to be an excellent boxer?
What this incident highlights is the flaw of onion skinned Filipinos. Instead of laughing and noting the flaws of Carolla’s points, they actually took offense. They’re actually giving a comedian who has seen better days far more importance. By taking the bait, they actually give him a new chance to have an audience he wouldn’t have had, and he used to have a bigger audience when his shows were on the US cable channels.
It’s actually refreshing to hear someone poke fun at the absurdity of the Pacquiao/Mayweather dispute. Not to mention the absurdity in elevating a flawed individual to be the anchor of one country’s ethnic and national “pride”.
There are several lessons that the seemingly permanently offended and under siege Filipino can learn out this nonsense:
1.) Humor, recognize it.
2.) To anchor one’s ethnic and national pride on a broader set of criteria is preferable. Don’t base it on a flawed person
3.) If people are more critical (preferably the constructive kind), people wouldn’t be butthurt if one of us is called out for bullshit, even if that person is the “pride of the Philippines”.
4.) Strive for marginal improvements which will make the Philippines have more world class athletes and not be joked around as a place known for sex tours.

I certainly agree… I am also a filipino… we cannot please everyone, we should know how to eleviate our integrity as a country….talk is cheap, though truth hurts sometimes, we should just make the most out of it…
I concur. Talk is cheap especially Carolla’s flawed rant about the country, and we are better off focusing on slowly improving ourselves and our society instead of getting caught up in petty situations. .
“By taking the bait, they actually give him a new chance to have an audience he wouldn’t have had,”
Haha, I like that.
I love Adam Corolla. Him and Dr. Drew were hilarious in their radio show, and he’s one of the best comedic philosophers out there. xD What I have been ranting about for about a couple months he was able to put in a couple of paragraphs.
I can’t say I’m a fan, but I remember being mildly entertained watching them on MTV at times (and MTW was still playing music videos back then!).
It’s too bad that Adam will get all the spotlight for something that you’ve been trying to get across for some time! I suggest you grab a snack and drink as the Carolla/Pacquiao thing potentially gets big. I won’t be surprised especially that it’s an election year if some politician challenges Carolla to a boxing match or threaten him with basag ulo!
i think your mother was raped by a filipino and you are non other than carolla
Thank you for your insightful contribution. The Philippines is blessed to have a person like you to defend it.
[...] 5, 2010 by jstuff29 Sadly, masses of ignorant Filipinos took the bait of washed up comedian Adam Corolla. A simple glance at his Facebook page reveals that there are enough moronic [...]
I wanted to comment on the whole Carolla vs. Pacquiao issue (much to my shame I’m fascinated by this stuff) but I’ve already said all I want to say about the whole issue on my blog (I have a somewhat similar opinion as yours). Take a look if you like.
PS. Apologies for the spamesque nature of this comment.
The thing is. Why do you fucking care?! And you’re telling us “get a life”? Dude, you just wrote a fucking stupid shit online that took some time and you’re telling us “get a life”. Fuck, I hate when people talk shit about my country, and we suck? Man, fuck you! You fucking ignorant ass motherfucker who don’t know shit about us. Thinking he knows all the things happening to the Philippines and shit like you build this motherfucking proud country of ours! Man, fuck you and fuck your momma and fuck your momma’s momma! Motherfucker!
How about watch Mayweather vs Mosley May 1 st Here
well said!
don’t criticize ALL the filipinos if the OTHER FILIPINOS have nothing to do with this .. actually, you are criticizing a whole country, not just some moron people .. and what will you get if you post a blog like this in the net? can you get lots of money from here? will you have popularity if you post this? hey, seriously, if you think we get mad at such a thing, it’s because we care about our dignity. look, “get a life” means stand up from that chair and work. i’m wasting my time here ’cause i want you to know you’re a fucking moron left by dumb parents on that chair! i’m really pissed off by this kind of attitude .. i don’t usually say bad words but this .. i just can’t hold back!
Not all Filipinos revolve around him. We’re not idiots. We may be sometimes, but there are idiots in every country anyways.
“Get a life as a country”. What an asshole.
Its now time to move on and let go of the past. All of us commit mistakes. Its just the author wanted quality comments on his site. Thats the truth. Comments make his site get high PR. He knows filipinos are always on the web and always on the look out of sites that are willing to criticize filipinos. Its all business. For example: Fuck You Manny Pacquiao, you look like a monkey. Filipinos are the dumbest people in the world.THis means that I want you to go on my site and comment on the box and makes my site go up in the rankings. ITS ALL BUINESS AND MONEY .Its not personal, Its all business.
What PR, business, and money?! You’ve failed to notice that this blog is still hosted by Worpress, there’s no ads here, and WordPress does not give money to its users. You on the other hand, are advertising a Money Pacquiao site which I’ve gladly withheld.
This site is an eye opener. Great post.
I’m a Filipino myself, but what I hate about us, is if somebody say anything bad about Philippines, our blood boils to the max and pretty much what Bryan exhibited above, he started losing his composure and cursed like a fucker. And we call Philippines a Christian country? Bryan, is that even christian-like? As much as I love Philippines, I have to point out our country is honestly pathetic at its best. And it’s usually the educated, critical thinking Filipinos or the enlightened expats who understand the truth.
Well said t3mp11..and also to you jstuff29..This site is an eye opener but Im not that sure most of the people posting here get the message.Im glad there are some who see our country the way we do.I love my country and Im proud to be a Filipino but I really hate whats going on with it.I hope someday we all open our eyes and do something about it…
funny thing about Flips are that whenever they feel “offended” by anything sarcastic about their country, they start rampaging cuss words like an otherworldly slum-drunk animal. DENIAL MUCH? ACCEPT IT AND MOVE ON. show how much maturity you have for your country. ;p
i am filipino, by the way. just sick and embarrassed by the petty bullshit our countrymen argue on and on about just because some just hit a fraction (or possibly the whole) of their pride. nuthin’ but gossip-mongers, seriously.
I agree with you so much. Many filipinos do not understand freedom of speech, and whenever someone sensible tries to convey fair criticism towards our country, the people treat it as if it’s insulting them. Remember the reception they gave to Claire Danes after she commented TRUTHFULLY about the streets of Manila? Jesus, filipinos are so shallow and thin-skinned, they do not know the meaning of being human, of being flawed and accepting that we make mistakes! What’s more is that our people are soooo ego-driven that there really isn’t room for change.
If, generally, filipinos are smart, then why can’t they take good arguments written by great scholars on why the hell this place NEEDS redemption big time? Of course, they can’t take an angry or a sarcastic person who makes reasonable criticism because like I said, they are ego-driven and thin-skinned. They hate individuality for all I care, they hate people who have different views in life because it makes them insecure and tears down their pride. They can’t take jokes like this guy, even if back home, they make the most offensive jokes about people who have darker skin eg. Bubble Gang joke about skin whitening soaps.
Contradictory, hypocritical and fake society of Philippines can never progress unless these haters of criticism ever learn HUMILITY and take a joke as it is.
I am not Filipino, am not a big boxing fan (I will watch) and could care less about Manny (though I think he juices)… But I implore filipinos to not elect a politician on account of his sporting ability. Electing a President/Leader is a very serious thing. All we really know about Manny politically is that he is a very strict Roman Catholic. The Catholic Church is not very progressive thing, in fact, it is the exact oppositie to “progressive”.
Please think and ask yourself what Pcaquio’s qualifications are to lead a country. I think Corolla’s comments were wrong, but realize that the decision to elect an international leader effects everybody.
I live in the Philippines in the northern Provinces… andI have to drive to the store for groceries . This is as close to dieing as I have ever experienced. I am driven off the road about once every 2 minutes by idiotic, moronic, stupid, suicidal, ignorant people who have no regard for anybody, including their own safety. It is a country full of the stupidest people I have ever seen. It is full of liars, theives, cheats, and scammers at all levels. I was recently sideswiped by a person “in a hurry” and then denied it… implying I must have been going backwards at high speed… on my motorcycle… nearly killing me. But “it’s their culture…”
