Sadly, masses of ignorant Filipinos took the bait of washed up comedian Adam Carolla. A simple glance at his Facebook page reveals that there are enough moronic Filipinos that are more than willing to dignify the flawed points of Carolla. As expected, the Philippine media is happy to add some fuel to the fire and lend a platform to the onion skinned mob to demonstrate their appalling denseness. Ignorance 1, Filipinos 0.
What caught my eye as this writer watched from the sidelines is the reaction of an independent journalist named Fernando Gagelonia. Despite years of working as a journalist, Gagelonia failed to do some research. Instead, he launched into a tirade on Carolla not unlike the Filipino ignoramuses(on the FB account referred earlier) who keep proving what Carolla has ranted about. See for yourself:
Gagelonia should have known better than to stoop to that level. Instead of acting like a siga and a kanto boy, he could have been calmly pointing out the flaws of Carolla’s rants. With veteran journalists like him around, is it any wonder why the Philippines media is so worthless and a good number of Filipinos are (unfortunately) dumb?
No offense to Gagelonia and his colleagues, but even Filipinos who can apply critical thinking regularly can’t just turn their backs to the stupidity of the Philippine mainstream media and its footsoldiers. The socio-economic and clerical elites gain an upper hand when independent thinkers cocoon themselves into a very narrow hole. It might be painful to pay attention to the mass media, but paying attention to it is a necessary evil. Just don’t drink Kool Aid even if the person serving it looks like her or him:
Disclosure: Yeah, the inclusion eye candy for both sexes don’t make much sense, but cut me some slack. This blog needs a break from it usual fare.
It’s interesting how we (Filipinos) get all bent out of shape over a simple joke. Sure, maybe Carolla’s jokes are a little in-your-face but they are what they are. Thing is, jokes are more often than not half-meant, which is why I guess everyone blew up, because that crack about the Philippines only being known for Pacman and sex stores is kinda true. No one wants to admit it, they call it racist (which I disagree with) but, well, what else are we known for?

Aside from nodding your heads and sighing at these entries, you might want to include proposals on what we CAN and SHOULD do as Filipinos.
This way, this blog will be all the more enlightening.
Filipinos aren’t really humans. If they were they would have accepted that all humans are flawed and that accepting that humans are flawed is a way of accepting to become a better person. Human beings strive for progress, to know what having money is spent on for most importantly. Unfortunately, most filipinos don’t act that way. When you give them money they don’t save it- they spend it for the most useless things.
Then, when you tell these thin-skinned haters of criticism that the country is a hell of a lot worse than it was 50 years ago they go on bringing you down, nail you and persecute you until it makes you tell them to fuck off. Yeah, they want to bring you down to their primitive level of thinking and reasoning. No, most don’t think and reason is clearly almost non-existent.

Haha! Just discovered your blog today. I enjoy reading your posts, although they seem a bit too straightforward at times. Then again, it’s probably for the best if you’re expecting a lot of Filipino readers, it might be the only way to get any kind of point across.

You’d be surprised at how enlightening a little critical, independent thinking can be. It’s important to consider all things from a number of different perspectives and not just blindly accept everything that’s been spoonfed to us from birth. There are flaws with almost any country and culture, but they just seem a bit more glaring if you take a contemporary individual’s perspective on present-day Philippines.
For the record, I don’t completely agree with all of this blogger’s posts, but I find them to be mostly quite refreshing and well-written, albeit a bit harsh.
